The album that started it all is now available on Bandcamp! Keith's first record from 2009 is a 10-track jewel. Based loosely on the Hanged Man and Temperance arcana of the Tarot, Year of the Cup is a water-themed, half-buried story of renunciation and resolve; revenge and reconciliation. The enchanting quality of Keith's weirdo-beardo style of music, which bloomed into fullness on Mystic Blues was born first as Year of the Cup.

The title track, based on the Temperance card, XIV of the Tarot, is a cupful of cosmic romance. The Heart Knows borrows liberally and from Mother Goose nursery rhymes and William Blake's "Marriage of Heaven and Hell" without apology; Talking Springs, MO is a weird tale of a supernatural encounter ending in a prophetic Jeremiad; Red Blues and Kissin' in the Dark are a pair of fun, straight up blues tunes that set the stage for the deeper cuts that arc from Old Tucson on through to a hopeful resolution in The Empty Verse.

We thought we'd lost the master .WAVs necessary for Year of the Cup to be Bandcamp compatible, but thankfully, we were wrong. Producer and musical genius extraordinaire Stuart Oliver recently found these splendid artifacts from 2009, and we are pleased to make them available to you. Year of the Cup was the first of a three-disc cycle, followed by Mystic Blues in 2015 and Liminal in 2021. The CD's themselves feature the Moon, the Stars, and the Sun, respectively. With this fortuitous re-release of Year of the Cup, the cycle is well and truly complete.

about

Keith Allen Dennis Bisbee, Arizona

Keith Allen Dennis has a style of music all to himself, which he calls "Mystic Blues." The lyrics are out of this world, yet of it: songs about stars and planets, prophetic springs, the Virgin Mary, and riding on dust devils. The music is inspired by William Blake, Mother Goose, Neil Young, the Little Prince, Crash Worship, Leadbelly, Pink Floyd, the Tarot, and above all Bisbee, Arizona. ... more
